You must be a registered voter in the city limits of the City of La Vernia, Texas in order to vote in the City of La Vernia's May 2024 General Election.

Wed Jan 17 2024- FIRST DAY for filing application for place on general election ballot (SOS Form 2-49). Note: Filing for a general election may occur before the election is ordered (as opposed to a special election). Period ends at 5 p.m. ED – 78 days

APPLICATION FOR A PLACE ON THE BALLOT FOR A SPECIAL ELECTION FOR A CITY, SCHOOL DISTRICT OR OTHER POLITICAL SUBDIVISION - An application for a special election may not be filed until after the election is ordered. The filing deadline is governed by Section 201.054 of the Texas Election Code  ( a candidate's application for a place on a special election ballot must be filed not later than:(1) 5 p.m. of the 62nd day before election day, if election day is on or after the 70th day after the date the election is ordered; or(2) 5 p.m. of the 40th day before election day, if election day is on or after the 46th day and before the 70th day after the date the election is ordered.)Filing deadline: Feb 9th 8:00 am- March 3rd 5:00 pm 

Wed Jan 17 2024- FIRST DAY for filing declaration of write-in candidacy (SOS Form 2-55). Note: Periods ends at 5 p.m. ED – 74 days.

Fri Feb 16 2024 5 pm- LAST DAY for filing application for place on general election ballot (SOS Form 2-49). Note: City Secretary’s office will stay open until 5 p.m. Mailed applications are filed when received.  

 
 
Application for a Ballot by Mail

To be eligible to vote early by mail in Texas, you must:

  • be 65 years or older;
  • be sick or disabled;
  • be out of the county on election day and during the period for early voting by personal appearance; or
  • be expected to give birth within three weeks before or after Election Day; or
  • be confined in jail, but otherwise eligible.

Instructions for submitting an Application for Ballot by Mail (“ABBM”):

  1. Print (PDF) the ABBM form
  2. OR submit an order online and an ABBM will be mailed to you.
  3. Complete Sections 1 through 4.
  4. Sign and Date Section 5.

Military and overseas voters are welcome to use the regular registration and early voting by mail process available to all voters away from their home county on Election Day. However, there are also special provisions for military and overseas voters.

If you need to register to vote or make sure you are eligible to vote (Am I Registered?), contact the Wilson County Elections Office at 830-393-7368. You may also stop by the City Secretary's Office to obtain a Voter's Registration Card or you may visit the Texas Secretary of State's website to request a registration form to be mailed to you.
