Can the La Vernia Police Department assist with problems between landlords and renters?

Issues between landlords and renters are considered to be civil matters.  The La Vernia Police Department like all municipal police departments are prohibited by state law from enforcing civil matters.  The La Vernia Police Department is authorized by state law to enforce criminal, health and safety, transportation code, family code, and other police related state laws.  Civil contracts, like rental agreements must be resolved in the appropriate courts not municipal court.
