| FAQ Details: | Citizens are strongly encouraged to limit what items are washed down the sink or flushed down the toilet. Caustic or harsh chemicals can damage sewer lines resulting in failures in the system due to leaks, and can kill the necessary bacteria needed at the wastewater treatment plant that ensures proper treatment of sewage. Never dispose of fats, oils or grease down the drain as it clogs the sewer pipes and the lift stations (necessary to move sewage uphill to reach the wastewater treatment plant). Never flush rags, shop towels, paper towels, feminine hygiene products (especially pads and plastic applicators), wash cloths, diapers (cloth or disposable), diaper wipes, articles of clothing, cat litter, toys, Q-tips, and any other items that are considered non-biodegradeable. These items clog lines, the wastewater lift stations , and may damage equipment at the wastewater treatment plant. Repairs are costly and that cost must be covered by the sewer rates you pay. |
